Louis Weiner to Join John Theurer Cancer Center Advisory Board

Hackensack Meridian <em>Health</em> John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center has appointed Louis M. Weiner, MD, to its advisory board. Weiner is the director of the Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Center and director of the MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute.

Hackensack MeridianHealthJohn Theurer Cancer Center (JTCC) at Hackensack University Medical Center has appointed Louis M. Weiner, MD, to its advisory board. Weiner is the director of the Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Center and director of the MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute.

In 2013, JTCC and Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center established a research partnership. Weiner will play a major role in the collaboration of these 2 institutions, helping to leverage resources, capabilities, and expertise to accelerate new discoveries in cancer research and clinical care.

As an internationally recognized medical oncologist, Weiner holds the Francis L. and Charlotte G. Gragnani Chair and is a professor of Oncology at Georgetown University School of Medicine. He also serves as chair of the NCI&rsquo;s Board of Scientific Counselors and as a member of its Clinical Trials Advisory Committee.

&ldquo;I am delighted to serve on the John Theurer Cancer Center Advisory Board,&rdquo; Weiner announced in a statement. &ldquo;This will improve opportunities for patients in both regions that we serve to receive world-class research-inspired cancer care that benefits them and leads to cancer prevention and cures around the world.&rdquo;

JTCC is New Jersey&rsquo;s largest and most comprehensive center. It is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with all types of cancer, as well as research, screenings, and preventative care. With 14 specialized cancer divisions, its team of medical, research, nursing, and support staff provide the most advanced and focused care for all patients.

Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only cancer center of its kind in the Washington, D.C. area, seeking to improve diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer through innovative and clinical research, patient care, community education, and the training of cancer specialists.

Weiner specializes in the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers. His research focuses on monoclonal antibody research and other immunotherapy treatments. His service with both institutions and commitment to the collaboration should significantly impact cancer research and increase treatment options for future patients.

Weiner received his bachelor&rsquo;s degree in biology at the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He completed a fellowship at Tufts University School of Medicine.
