The in-house oral oncolytic pharmacy of American Oncology Network, LCC, received reaccreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Health Care, the organization announced, in a press release.

“Obtaining accreditation from an organization such as ACHC demonstrates AON’s commitment to providing patient care through our specialty pharmacy at the highest level of standards, said Douglas Braun, CSP, PharmD, RPh, the senior Pharmacy director of AON, in the press release.

AON’s pharmacy is housed in Fort Myer, Florida, where oncologists collaborate with pharmacists, technicians, and support staff to provide quality treatment options to their patients with cancer that are also safe and effective. The pharmacy is equipped with 99% of the available oral therapies for the treatment of cancer. Serving 17 states, the drugs are delivered directly to the homes of patients, according to the press release.

The in-house pharmacy was first introduced in 2019 as a solution for community oncologists who often serve communities that cannot access the newly released effective drug for the treatment of patients with cancer. The plan for the pharmacy was to deliver the agents to patients’ homes within 72 hours. In the beginning, the program was offering about 35% of the oral drugs available for cancer treatment but has rapidly grown since.

In October of 2020, AON announced that the expansion of the in-house pharmacy to a 20,000 square foot facility. The expansion was executed to help over 90 physicians in 15 states across the country. The pharmacy was also reported to offer access 24 hours a day and 7 days per week.

“AON Pharmacy should be commended for meeting these rigorous national quality standards,” said Todd Schonherz, chief executive officer of AON. “This reaccreditation represents our commitment to our physicians and their patients to providing the highest quality of services to ensure patient safety.”
