Ali McBride, PharmD, MS, BCOP, Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) President and clinical coordinator of hematology/oncology at The University of Arizona Cancer Center, discusses the theme for his presidency: Collaborate. Educate. Compensate: A Prescription for Sustainable Cancer Care Delivery.

Compensation is the foundation of what he would like to address during his term, says McBride. He plans to develop layers of understanding of the cost of care for patients, which is often overlooked. ACCC will provide further support and understanding on these measures.

The second piece of this theme is innovation, an ongoing strategic goal across both cancer care and healthcare in general. ACCC will provide more educational resources in understanding new models, new techniques, and new electronic devices, McBride says.

For example, he will aim to develop a better understanding of biomarkers for ACCC members. He says these agents have the ability to both reduce drug cost as well as maximize access to drugs for patients. Additionally, ACCC will educate members more on next-generation sequencing, targeted therapies, biomarkers, and mutational testing.
