Silvia C. Formenti, MD, chairman of the department of radiation oncology at Weill Cornell Medicine, discusses the advantages of radiation therapy in patients with lung cancer compared to other modalities.

Radiation therapy is very localized and a great deal is already known about how to use this in patients, says Formenti. Radiation is able to control the tumors as well as spare normal tissue around the tumor.
