• Smoldering myeloma doesn’t act as a single disease.
• Gene expression profiling, a clinical staging system based on four genes, is used as an approach to identify high-risk progression of this disease. It is also used as technique to determine which patients would progress in one year.
• Intervention studies or treatments can be used following gene expression profiling.
