Paul L. Swiecicki, MD, of the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center, addresses whether biomarker testing is needed to select patients for subcutaneous amivantamab in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). He explains that although OrigAMI-4 looked for potential biomarker associations, the cohort was too small to draw firm conclusions, and no predictive biomarker for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) or MET has been identified. Dr Swiecicki notes this tracks with the long history of cetuximab in HNSCC as well as data from EGFR bispecific antibodies in lung cancer and other emerging agents in this space. As a result, he states that EGFR and MET testing is not currently required to select patients for subcutaneous amivantamab and that treatment response appears to be independent of biomarker status based on available data.
